The original land that is now Manchester originally belonged to John Nickey and was sold to William Reeser in 1814. Reeser immediately began selling measured lots for $100 and named the town Liverpool. The roads through town served as an access to Harrisburg from York, which brought many significant visitors to the area.
After realizing the town had the same name as another town, the residents renamed it Manchester and it was incorporated 1869.
